DOES DOMESTIC PRIVATE INVESTMENT INDUCE ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE IN TURKEY? EVIDENCE FROM FOURIER-BASED METHODS

Although many aspects of domestic private investment (DPRI) have been empirically studied in the literature, evidence regarding effect DPRI on environmental sustainability is rather nascent. This research attempts to fill this gap by investigating how Turkey affected degradation (namely ecological and carbon footprints) for 1975-2017 period employing Fourier-based approaches. The findings indicate that employed variables (environmental degradation, income, energy use, DPRI) a long-run association both proposed models. Furthermore, dynamic relationship captured autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) method shows primary use induce footprints long-run, while income intensifies indicators short-run. These results clearly threatens Turkey’s long-term sustainability.
